Affiliate Disclosure

We believe in being completely honest about how this site makes money. Here’s everything you need to know.

Last updated: January 2025 Required by FTC, UK CAP, and ASA guidelines

The short version: Some links on this site earn us a small commission if you buy something. It costs you nothing extra. We only recommend products we’d actually use ourselves. Commissions help us keep all guides completely free.

1. What Is an Affiliate Link?

An affiliate link is a special URL that tracks whether a visitor came from our website. If you click one of our links and then buy a product, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale — usually 3% to 10% depending on the category.

This is a very common way for free websites to earn money. It’s how we can afford to research, write, and update hundreds of guides at no cost to you.

2. How We Use Affiliate Links

In our repair guides, we often link to specific parts, tools, or products that are needed for the repair. Some of these links are affiliate links. When they are, we will use phrases like:

  • “Buy on Amazon (affiliate link)”
  • A small note at the top or bottom of the guide saying “This guide contains affiliate links”
  • A “▸” icon next to links that are affiliate links

We always try to be clear when a link is an affiliate link so you can make an informed decision.

3. Our Affiliate Partners

We currently participate in affiliate programmes with the following types of retailers:

Amazon Associates
Parts, tools, and accessories. Available in most countries.
Hardware Retailers
Local and national hardware stores where applicable.
Appliance Part Suppliers
Specialist sites for appliance spare parts.
Tool Brands
Direct brand affiliate programmes for tools we recommend.

This list may change as we add new partners. We will always update this page to reflect our current relationships.

4. Our Editorial Promise

Our recommendations are always based on what we genuinely believe is best for the repair — not on which product pays the highest commission. Specifically:

  • We never recommend a product just because it has an affiliate programme
  • We never let affiliate relationships influence which repair steps we recommend
  • If the best product for a repair has no affiliate link, we link to it anyway
  • We do not accept payment to feature, review, or recommend specific products
  • We do not accept free products in exchange for positive reviews

Our guides are written to help you fix things. That’s the only agenda.

5. Does It Cost You Anything?

No. Clicking an affiliate link does not change the price you pay. The commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your pocket. In many cases, the same product is available at the same price whether you click our link or go directly to the retailer.

6. Advertising (Google AdSense)

We display advertisements on this website through Google AdSense. These are clearly labelled as “sponsored” or “ad” by Google. We have no control over which specific ads are shown — Google’s algorithms determine this based on the content of the page and your browser history.

Revenue from ads helps us keep all of our repair guides free.

7. Digital Product Sales

We sell premium digital guides and bundles through this website. These are original works written by our team and sold directly to you. We earn 100% of the revenue from these sales (minus payment processing fees). There are no hidden affiliate relationships in our digital products.

8. Questions?
